All you need to know about short-term work permitAs we all know, it is complicated for foreigners to apply for work permit in China. After entering China with a M visa or F visa, they need to apply for a work permit and a work-related residence permit in order to be legally employed in China. However, it takes more than one month to process a work permit application, and the review is strict. The validity period of the work permit can be from one year to five years. However, many foreign applicants have not worked in China for that long, and many of them are in China to complete short-term work tasks, so it is unnecessary to process such work permit in a time-consuming and labor-intensive way. So how do these foreigners who come to China for short-term work stay in China legally? For such situation, China has also actively introduced corresponding measures. According to the Guidelines on Work Permit for Foreigners in China, foreigners who have completed short-term work tasks and stay in China for less than 90 days need to apply for a "Work Permit for Foreigners in China (90 days or less)", which is to become a "China short-term work visa". That is to say, foreigners who enter China to complete short-term work tasks and stay in China for no more than 90 days can apply for a short-term work visa. The following situations that are regarded as short-term work tasks and are suitable for applying for a short-term work visa. 1. Go to the domestic partner to complete a certain technical, scientific research, management and guidance work. 2. Conduct trial training in domestic sports institutions (including coaches and athletes). 3. Making films (including commercials and documentaries) 4. Fashion shows (including car models, shooting print advertisements, etc.) 5, engaged in foreign-related business performances. 6. Other circumstances identified by the Labor Bureau and Social Security Department. The advantages of a short-term work visa are obvious, which is also an important reason why everyone wants to apply for this visa: 1. The application time is fast, and it can be completed in about 10 working days. 2. It belongs to legal employment and is protected by labor law. 3. The required materials are simple. For short-term work as a model, the applicant only needs to prepare passport information materials and health certificates. 4. It is allowed to work for multiple employers, but the names of all working cities (no more than 5) should be listed when applying. Nonetheless, it should be noted that the maximum validity period of a short-term work visa is 90 days, and it cannot be extended. Moreover, the short-term work visa is limited in its scope of use. Not all jobs can apply for a short-term work visa, see the applied situations (1) to (6). For jobs beyond the scope of application, applicants should apply for a long-term work visa. Secondly, if you hold a Z visa for a stay of less than 30 days, you don't need to apply for a work-related residence certificate. If you stay for more than 30 days (including 30 days), you need to apply for a work-related residence certificate like a long-term work visa. Thirdly, the short-term work visa only can be applied once a year. Is it possible to change a short-term job assignment to a long-term work? Strictly speaking, after everyone's short-term mission is over, the work residence is still within the validity period, and no application for extension is allowed. However, if you intend to be employed by domestic employers, you can apply for a work permit to the Labor Bureau and Social Security Department with relevant supporting materials, according to the procedures of the Regulations on the Employment of Foreigners in China, during the validity period of your residence permit.
